Backstory: Samata grew up relatively wealthy and comfortable, but in a world where only those born with the blood of sorcerers could truly advance in society. As a commoner, there was only so far she could go.

She was fine with that, for the most part. She went to a prestigious university in the capital and graduated with honors and a degree in natural philosophy. She was planning on disappearing into academia forever and living for her research, possibly becoming a professor at the very same university she had graduated from, but fate had other plans.

At her graduation party a sorcerer tried to show off, opening a bottle of wine with blades of pure magic. But as it wasn't the first bottle of wine he had opened that night, he messed the spell up. The blade cut a table in half, destroyed the front wall of the tavern, shattering debris all over the street. It also cut Samata's left arm off at the shoulder. Samata survived, but when she tried to press charges for assault, she was told that as a commoner she was lucky SHE didn't get in trouble for daring to accuse a noble sorcerer of any crime. She couldn't do anything.

She fell into a depressive episode and vanished into her research. And that was when she made her great discovery. She built a prosthetic arm that could give her a full range of motion again, but also realized that the principles that made her arm work could also allow a non-sorcerer to use magic.

If she could teach commoners her new style of magic, she could give magic to the masses. Suddenly, sorcerers would be obsolete, and wouldn't have power over everyone else.

She just has to survive long enough to do it while dodging angry sorcerers, church agents, and maybe even the god of magic himself!

TL;DR: The World's first Wizard stages a revolution against a corrupt church by teaching commoners how to use magic that used to belong only to sorcerer bloodlines.

Powers

• Wizardry: Samata has figured out a method by which she can manipulate ambient magical energy in the environment to create effects on the world around her despite not actually having any magical talent herself. Each spell she casts take several minutes, but she can do all but the last few seconds of the spell ahead of time and then finish it when she actually needs the spell. She usually has several spells queued up and ready to go. She is essentially using a very primitive version of D&D wizard magic. Her spellbook can be found here
  
• Artificial Arm: Samata's left arm is missing, but she built a mechanical replacement. The principles she uses to cast spells started as a method to make her articifical arm move as if it were actually part of her body. It's heavy and made of metal and kind of uncomfortable to wear, but while she has it she can manipulate objects just fine.
  
• Spectacles of Detect Magic: Samata has a pair of fancy spectacles that can be used to see magic in it's raw form as it flows through the world around her. It makes her magical research easier, and allows her to detect what people have magic powers of their own.

First Impressions

• Appearance: Samata is not an Indian woman, as she isn't from Earth, but she has that look about her. About 5'6", around 175 lbs, long black bushy hair. She has the curvy, heavyset build of someone who spends more time eating rich food than she does excerising. From her style of dress you might guess she was from around the 1700s (though she dresses in what we would have thought of as men's fashion. Basically imagine the kind of stuff George Washington or Benjamin Franklin would wear and there you go.). The most unusual thing about her appearance is her left arm, which is a metal prosthetic that looks fairly primitive but also actually moves around as if it were part of her body.
  
• Vibes: Samata is passionate, loyal, and quick to make friends, but also short tempered and short sighted. She gets tunnel vision on whatever she's focusing on, which is usually exploding at someone who's annoyed her, and tends not to notice looming problems until they're right on top of her.
  
• Interests: Magical theory. Social class dynamics. Alcohol. Rich food.
  
• Sensitive topics: She has a tendency to assume the worst about anyone born into a privileged social class. Royalty, aristocrats, and similar will start out on her bad side and have to prove themselves.
